What is caloric cycling?
Simply put, it a way of manipulating caloric intake and tricking your body into thinking that calories are not being restricted, through what the book calls “interval eating” & “planned variance”. The program is designed to restrict calories and burn body fat without compromising your body’s ability to burn calories.
So why does your body need to be tricked into thinking that there is no caloric deficit? Well, your body begins to slow it’s metabolic rate making it harder and harder to lose weight. Unfortunately this is a survival mechanism that has been around since we were cave people!
The EODD uses caloric cycling to maximize your metabolic rate, which makes perfect sense.
Most diets end up slowing your metabolism by longer term calorie restriction making it easier to put the weight back on when the diet is done. By maintaining a high metabolism, your body burns fat for energy instead of storing body fat. Since the body’s metabolism is always kept “guessing” it never slows down to adapt to a calorie-restrictive diet, and the weight continues to fall off.
How The EODD Diet Works: Burn Days & Feed Days
There are three variation of the EODD, which features a 7 day system (SNAPP) that varies calories and macronutrients (carbs, protein, fats) and has its own schedule of “Burn” and “Feed” days. Let me explain…
Burn days: These are the days where you consume fewer calories than your body requires, one half to two thirds of your baseline maintenance caloric intake, to be exact. On these days you eat low calorie foods, veggies and other fiber rich offerings, as well as plenty of lean protein.
Feed days: On these days, you are allowed to enjoy your favorite foods, within the plan’s guidelines, of course (you can eat pizza). You’ll consume more calories than you need, as much as one and a half times your baseline of calories. Desserts are also allowed, believe it or not..
On a typical day, you just need to follow the SNAPP system, which is included in the book, to achieve quick and lasting results.
